Amazing winterday

The weather was so nice that I decided to take my camera with me. Actually I wanted to run a short round about 4 kilometer, but at the turning point I decided to take another loop and another and another. 2 hours, 16 kilometer, 900 vertical meters later I arrived at home. Exhausted, but happy. It was one of the best runs ever.

The sound of silence in the forrest is something I´ll definitely miss when I am back in Hamburg. It´s just nature and me,nothing alse. No dogs, no cars, no sounds, except my breath and my steps in the muddy ground.

France

Another beautiful sunday, travelling day. I´ve never been in France before, except one overflight from Hamburg to Mallorca. Big chance for me to eleminate this white spot on my map, cause the french frontier is very close. So we took a drive to Straßburg and walked around the city. It was amazing to see the old buildings, the moat and especially the Cathedral. I was stunned by the height and the filigree structure. Absolutely unbelievable that people were able to build this 700 years ago. People really and deeply must have believed in the greatness of god at the sight of this wonder.

I definetely had  to climb the tower and a few minutes later I was gazing down from the 66 meters high platform.  A couple of minutes later my aunt and uncle arrived at the viewpoint and I got a short lesson about Straßsburg, the history and the most important buildings. It was a cold and rainy day and the sight wasn´t as good as we disered, but I really enjoyed it.

After this exercise we got hungry and decided to find a suitable restaurant to test some french food. Almost 2 hours later we found one that wasn´t closed at lunchtime… they are crazy, the french! I decided to be very brave and I ordered local food – frog legs, snails and a french beer.

The beer was ok, the snails as usual and the frog legs… very strange, but tasty. It´s hard not to think about “Kermit”, the frogs ins our childrenbooks or the frogs we had in our aquarium formerly. Don´t play with food! Or reverse … Don´t eat your toy, especially when it has eyes. Realistically it´s food like chicken, fish or crabs. It´s just unfamiliar to us and loathing of frog legs is just instilled by community.

I ate 5 of the 6 legs, the first one was aweful, too much thoughts in my mind about “that shouldn´t be”, but the rest was tasty. A mixture of fish and chicken drowned in garlic. Nice experience!!!

Big package has arrived

In Hamburg there is an election this month and because I am not in Hamburg I ordered the stuff for postal vote. Today the big envelope arrived. Last time it was a small letter DIN5, but this time it was a big DIN4 one. It contained 4 different kinds of sheets, one statutory declaration, 1 manual how to vote and 2 envelopes to send it all back.

We have 4  different kinds of  election sheets. Landesliste, Wahlkreisliste, Bezirksliste and … I forgot the red one :). In every sheet we have 5 votes, so 20 votes at all. We are able to split our votes between the candidates. But after a couple of minutes of reading the names, trying hard to recognize someone I decided to use the good old watering-can-principle.

Gengenbach

Hello 2011! This is my first post in 2011 and its the first time, a month passed without a blog entry. Isn´t that amazing? There was nothing to report, it was just everyday-life.

But now my term is almost done and I have to do some exams. And for a better preparation I went to my relatives in the black forest. Its a very small town where I am spending 21 days. Life is very different here and I really enjoy it. there is only 1 shop in the village just few hours open each day, sunday closed. No cinema, no theatre, no public bath, nothing but nature.

Running is exhausting here because of the hills. My first run ended after 3 kilometers, my muscles were paining and my feet don´t wanted to move any further. But now I am doing fine, it is still more exhausting than running in plain Hamburg but its more joyfull. The landscape is awesome!

Today me and my aunt and uncle we made a trip to an old city named Gengenbach. This medieval town is very beautiful apart from many many cars on the streets. It was 16°C and the sun was shining while it was -1°C in Hamburg :).
